My Christmas Gift to You

With the country in an economic recession and more and more companies laying off hard-working people to trim expenses (my employer has let go of about eight people in the past few months – about half of our staff), incomes are becoming less stable, at least theoretically. For these reasons, I know that the more frivolous expenses such as fine art portraits will likely be cut from most people’s budgets.

However, as any decent economist will tell you, people should not stop spending entirely. Keep buying your cars and your PS3s. Go ahead and take that trip across three state lines to visit family for the holidays. And most importantly, keep getting beautiful images of you and your loved ones!

As an independent photographer who does not rely on photography as my main source of income, I have no business expenses to trim or employees to cut. I don’t need to worry about paying a lease on studio space, either. My most valuable assets – my valuable time and expertise – are not subject to cutbacks. So in this season of giving and on into the recession, I am giving you, my customers, a special gift – a discount! I have cut my session fee almost in half for an indefinite period of time.

So merry Christmas, everyone! Let’s have a great 2009.
