After years of talking about it, my wife finally decided she wanted to get a dog. She had her heart set on a lemon Basset Hound and we started searching for breeders in our area about two months ago. However, one fateful trip to the pet store later (which she swears was my 4 year old, Kiefer’s, idea) she fell in love with a little blue Basset they had just received. After a mostly ceremonious visit to see this puppy for myself, I must admit I rather took a liking to the little girl.
I admit I am mostly a cat person. The only dogs I’ve ever owned were strictly outside dogs; more like privileged livestock rather than a true pet. I wasn’t used to an animal needing so much attention. But with all the frustrations of house training and constant supervision – it is like having another baby in the house, only one that can run and chew through anything – how can I look at that little face and regret any of it?
