Vivitar 285HV hacked to Add 3.5mm Mono Jack

This past Tuesday I had a shoot with a model down in the tunnels under Springfield. I brought along all my Strobist gear as usual, but I ran into a major malfunction with my flash. I had set it up around the corner down the tunnel to provide light for the tunnel walls in the background. However, the flash failed to fire 9 times out of 10. I spent way too much time in the dark trying to get the damned thing to work. Luckily, my model is also a good friend and was very patient with me. (more…)

Kids on Trampolines

I’m always looking for ways to experiment, so when my boys needed to work off some energy before bed the other night I saw it as an opportunity. They love getting their picture taken, so I set up my strobes on either side of the trampoline and told them to keep bouncing! (more…)

Review: Paul Buff’s CyberSync™ Transmitter & Receiver

Lately I’ve been doing much more on-location shooting, but the act of packing up my studio lights is quite a chore and hoping to have access to a decent electrical outlet can be disappointing. The setup and break down of this equipment saps a good 20-30 minutes of my time and makes everyone (that showed up on time, that is) wait for me to be ready. But lately I’ve become intrigued by the techniques employed by the Strobist community and decided I would go light and do it their way. (more…)
